Yangju City’s ‘Suburban Line Art-Plot’ Selected in Gyeonggi Province Local Tourism Contest… Jangheung Tourism Set to Begin in Earnest
As a result of the competitiveness of a model combining the Suburban Line and Yangju’s art infrastructure, Iryeong Station has become the gateway to art tourism in northern Gyeonggi.
[Break News Yangju = Reporter Kim Wan-young] Yangju City announced on the 26th that its ‘Suburban Line Art-Plot’ was finally selected in the ‘2026 Gyeonggi Province Local Tourism Content Discovery and Support Project’ contest, organized by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization.
This contest involved document, presentation, and on-site evaluations of 26 contents submitted from cities and counties within the province, and six final projects, including Yangju City's, were selected.
The ‘Suburban Line Art-Plot’ is a project that connects art resources in the Jangheung area into a single travel route by utilizing the accessibility secured through the reopening of the Suburban Line. With this selection, the city has secured 150 million won in provincial funding and plans to proceed with a project worth a total of 165 million won. The key detailed projects include: ▲ Art-Plot Log, a participatory program where participants pick up a kit at Iryeong Station and combine collectible elements while exploring art hubs. At the final stage of the journey, participants can engrave a signature to complete their own unique art collection.
▲ Art-Plot Log Tour, a premium program where participants travel to major hubs accompanied by a professional guide. Film cameras will be rented out, and travel logbooks will be produced and placed at key tourist sites, such as Iryeong Station, to be transformed into unique local tourism assets for Yangju City.
▲ Art-Plot Partners is a mutual growth project designed to help standardize service quality at major tourist sites. By distributing customized manuals and providing professional hygiene and disease prevention services, it aims to build a sustainable tourism ecosystem where tourists can visit with peace of mind.
Through these projects, Yangju City plans to connect scattered art resources into a unified whole to foster the Jangheung region as a sanctuary for art. Through this, the plan is to shift the tourism structure from one-off visits to stay-type travel and secure a foundation for revitalizing local tourism.
Hong Mi-young, Head of the Culture and Tourism Division, stated, “This selection is the result of the competitiveness of a model combining the Gyeonggi Suburban Railway and Yangju’s art infrastructure,” adding, “We will develop Iryeong Station into a gateway for art tourism in northern Gyeonggi Province to widely promote the artistic value of Yangju Jangheung.”
