[브레이크뉴스 의정부=김완영 기자] 경기도 의정부시는 민락국민체육센터에서 ‘2026 의정부시장기 체육대축전 어린이 수영대회’를 22일 개최했다.
이번 대회는 지역 어린이들의 기초체력 향상과 건전한 스포츠 문화 확산을 위해 마련됐다. 특히 올해는 참가 대상을 확대해 초등학생 전 학년(1~6학년)은 물론, 2027년 초등학교 입학 예정인 2020년생 미취학 어린이까지 참가 연령층을 하향 조정해 수영 꿈나무들의 참여 기회를 넓혔다.
대회 현장에는 300여 명의 학생 선수들이 출전해 자유형, 배영, 평영, 접영 및 계영 등 다양한 종목에서 그동안 갈고닦은 기량을 마음껏 뽐냈다. 아이들은 관중석을 가득 메운 가족들의 응원 속에 경기를 펼치며 도전 정신과 성취감을 느꼈다.
시 관계자는 “지난해 어린이 수영대회 신설에 대한 시민들의 소중한 의견을 수렴해 대회를 개최한 이후, 더 많은 아이들에게 기회를 주고자 참가 범위를 확대했다”며 “앞으로도 어린이 선수들이 안전한 환경에서 마음껏 기량을 펼치고 가족과 함께 즐거운 추억을 만들 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
