이번 행사는 대소면이 1973년 금왕읍 승격 이후 53년 만에 음성읍, 금왕읍에 이어 음성군 내 세 번째 읍으로 승격되는 뜻깊은 순간을 군민들과 함께 나누기 위해 마련됐다.
앞서 군은 지난 3월 6일 행정안전부의 대소읍 승격 최종 승인을 받은 데 이어, 25일 관련 조례를 공포하며 기존 ‘2읍·7면’에서 ‘3읍·6면’ 체제로의 행정구역 개편을 완료했다.
이날 행사는 개청식과 열린음악회로 나뉘어 진행됐다. 식전 행사로 주요 내빈들이 참석한 가운데 새로운 출발을 기념하는 식수 행사가 열렸으며, 이어 음성군 청소년 오케스트라의 축하 공연이 펼쳐져 분위기를 돋웠다.
본행사인 개청식에서는 읍 승격에 기여한 유공자들에게 표창패가 수여됐고, 초대 대소읍장에 대한 임용장 수여식과 함께 대소읍 행정복지센터의 새 시작을 상징하는 현판 제막식이 거행돼 행사의 의미를 더했다.

이에 발맞춰 군은 성본산업단지 상가 건물에 지난 3월 11일 대소읍 출장소를 개소해 증가하는 행정 수요에 적극 대응하고 있다. 115㎡ 규모로 업무를 시작한 출장소에는 1개 팀, 3명의 직원이 상주하며 주민등록·인감 등 제증명 발급과 각종 생활 민원 등을 원스톱으로 신속하게 처리하고 있다.
군은 앞으로도 읍 수준에 맞는 도시기반시설 확충과 정주 여건 개선을 통해 대소읍을 명실상부한 중부권 경제·생활의 핵심 성장 거점으로 육성할 방침이다.
군 관계자는 “대소읍 승격은 지역 주민과 기업들의 헌신적인 노력이 한데 어우러져 빚어낸 소중한 결실”이라며 “새롭게 출범하는 대소읍에 걸맞은 수준 높은 행정서비스를 제공하는 한편, 2030 음성시로 나아가기 위한 튼튼한 기반을 다지는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
