정청래 민주당 대표, 포항 보경사 비공식 방문…탄원 스님과 차담

【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=더불어민주당 정청래 대표가 지난 28일 경북 포항의 보경사를 비공식 방문해 주지 탄원 스님과 차담을 나눴다.

정 대표는 이날 오전 9시 20분쯤 보경사에 도착해 한민수·강준현 의원, 박규환 최고위원, 오중기 위원장 등과 함께 대웅전에서 참배한 뒤 경내를 둘러봤다.

이어진 차담에서 정 대표는 탄원 스님을 “절친”이라고 소개하며 이는 “절에서 만난 친구라는 뜻”이라고 말해 웃음을 자아냈다. 두 사람은 2022년 문화재 관람료 국가 지원을 골자로 한 ‘문화재 보호법’ 개정 논의를 계기로 인연을 맺은 것으로 전해졌다.

정 대표는 이 자리에서 “스님들과 가까워지면서 교회를 나가지 않은 지 2년이 넘었다”고도 했다.

이날 차담에는 포항 여성불교연합회장이자 박정훈 해병대 준장의 모친 김봉순 여사도 참석했다. 정 대표는 김 여사에게 “강직한 군인을 키워냈다”고 말했고, 김 여사는 “아들이 채상병 사건으로 어려움을 겪을 때 보경사 산신각에서 백일기도를 드렸다”고 했다.

정 대표 일행은 이후 산신각을 찾아 기념사진을 촬영하며 박 대령의 안녕을 기원했다. 현장에 있던 김용순 신도회장은 사찰 발전과 지역 현안에 대한 관심을 요청했다.

약 1시간가량 진행된 방문을 마치며 탄원 스님은 “바쁜 가운데서도 인연을 잊지 않고 찾아줘 감사하다”며 “문화재 보호와 나라의 안녕을 위해 힘써달라”고 말했다.

Concluding the visit, which lasted about an hour, Venerable Tanwon said, “I am grateful that you did not forget our connection and visited despite your busy schedules,” and asked them to “strive for the protection of cultural heritage and the safety of the nation.”
