[브레이크뉴스 양주=김완영 기자] 경기도 양주시가 과천경마공원 양주시 유치를 위한 범시민 10만 명 서명운동에 본격 돌입했다.
양주시는 지난 23일 '과천경마공원 양주시 유치 추진위원회' 발대식과 함께 10만 명 서명운동을 추진한다고 30일 밝혔다.
서명은 양주시 홈페이지를 통한 온라인 서명과 오프라인 서명부 작성 두 가지 방식으로 진행되며, 양주시민뿐 아니라 국민 누구나 참여할 수 있다.
양주시가 경마공원 유치 후보지로 제시한 곳은 광적면 광석리 일원의 광석지구(약 116만㎡)다. 해당 부지는 2004년 택지개발지구로 지정된 이후 22년간 방치된 곳으로, 토지 보상이 완료돼 별도의 보상 절차 없이 즉시 개발에 착수할 수 있다는 점이 최대 강점으로 꼽힌다.
시는 경마공원이 이전될 경우 연간 약 500억 원의 지방세 수입과 약 3,000명의 상주 인력 유입, 방문객 증가에 따른 지역 상권 활성화와 관광객 유치 등의 효과를 기대하고 있다.
이에 시민 A씨는 "과천경마공원 유치는 여야를 막론하고 힘을 합쳐 양주시 미래발전을 위해 정치인들은 최선을 다해야 한다. 특히, 양주시의 유일한 국회의원 정성호 법무부장관은 시민들이 5선을 지지한 만큼 이번에는 그에 맞는 일을 한 기회이다"라고 전했다.
