Promoting the World Heritage Listing of Yeongju Hoeamsa Temple Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List... Oh Heung-jin Elected as Chairman
[Break News Yangju = Reporter Kim Wan-young] The appointment ceremony for the 2nd term of the Residents' Council of the Hoeamsa Temple Site in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, was held on March 31st at the video room on the first floor of the Yangju Municipal Hoeamsa Temple Site Museum.
On this day, a total of 20 members received appointment certificates from Yangju Mayor Kang Su-hyeon for the 2nd term of the Residents' Council for Promoting the World Heritage Listing of the Yangju Hoeamsa Temple Site. These members consist of 10 members reappointed from the 1st term and 10 new members for the 2nd term.
Through a meeting, the Hoeamsa Temple Site Residents' Council appointed Professor Oh Heung-jin of Shinhan University as Chairman, Member Kim Yi-cheol as Vice Chairman, and Member Park Si-ha as Secretary General.
The committee members will fulfill roles such as "preserving and managing the Hoeamsa Temple Site, promoting its value, and enhancing its value." Starting in April, their activities will include continuous monitoring, environmental cleanup, support for royal festivals, a visit to the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee, and attendance at international academic conferences.
In response, Mayor Kang Su-hyeon stated, "The Hoeamsa Temple Site in Yangju holds World Heritage value as outstanding material evidence proving the prosperity and spread of Zen Buddhist culture that flourished in East Asia during the 14th century. We aim for its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2029."
