선린대학교는 2026년 3월 17일자로 고용노동부로부터 ‘근로자안전보건교육기관’ 승인을 받았다고 밝혔다.
이번 승인은 산업안전보건과 주도로 2025년 겨울방학 기간 사업계획서를 수립한 데 이어 대학본부가 관련 서류를 준비해 1차 심사를 통과하고, 지난 3월 11일 진행된 2차 현장 실사를 거쳐 최종 확정됐다.
전경국 총장직무대행은 “이번 교육기관 지정은 선린대학교가 보유한 물적·인적 자원을 활용해 지역사회에 기여할 수 있는 중요한 계기”라며 “기업과의 연계를 통해 산업안전 교육을 강화하고 적극적인 지원을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.
이창은 산업안전보건과 학과장은 “고용노동부로부터 공식 교육기관으로 인정받았다는 점에서 의미가 크다”며 “실무 중심의 안전보건교육을 통해 지역 근로자의 생명 보호와 건강 증진에 기여하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편 포항 지역은 POSCO를 중심으로 한 철강산업과 국가산업단지가 밀집해 있어 근로자 대상 안전보건교육 수요가 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 향후 지방자치단체와 경상북도교육청과의 협력을 통해 공무원과 초·중·고 학생을 대상으로 한 안전교육도 확대될 것으로 전망된다.

Sunlin University announced that it received approval as a ‘Worker Safety and Health Education Institution’ from the Ministry of Employment and Labor effective March 17, 2026.
This approval was finalized following the establishment of a business plan during the 2025 winter break led by the Department of Industrial Safety and Health, the preparation of relevant documents by the university headquarters to pass the first round of screening, and a second round of on-site inspections conducted on March 11.
Acting President Jeon Kyung-kook stated, “This designation as an educational institution is an important opportunity for Sunlin University to contribute to the local community by utilizing its material and human resources,” adding, “We will strengthen industrial safety education through partnerships with companies and continue to provide active support.”
Lee Chang-eun, Head of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, stated, “It is highly significant that we have been recognized as an official educational institution by the Ministry of Employment and Labor,” adding, “We will contribute to protecting the lives and promoting the health of local workers through practical safety and health education.”
Meanwhile, the Pohang region is densely populated with the steel industry, centered around POSCO, and national industrial complexes, leading to a continuous increase in demand for safety and health education for workers. It is also expected that safety education for civil servants and elementary, middle, and high school students will be expanded in the future through cooperation with local governments and the Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education.
