포항시는 이번 사전경기에서 검도, 유도, 사이클, 농구, 골프, 궁도 등 주요 종목에서 고른 성적을 거두며 금메달 21개, 은메달 9개, 동메달 11개를 획득했다. 특정 종목에 치우치지 않은 안정적인 입상으로 종합 점수를 확보하며 본경기에서도 경쟁 우위를 점했다는 평가다.

앞서 30일에는 포항시 평생학습원과 대이동 행정복지센터가 중앙고등학교 체육관을 방문해 배드민턴 선수단을 격려했으며, 김형철 시의원과 대이동 체육회도 함께해 선수들의 사기를 북돋았다. 이어 포항시 대중교통과와 차량등록사업소, 신광면 행정복지센터와 신광면 체육회도 롤러 선수단 훈련장을 찾아 응원 메시지를 전했다.
배성규 체육산업과장은 “사전경기에서 좋은 흐름을 이어가고 있는 만큼 본경기에서도 상승세를 유지해 종합우승을 달성할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
한편 제64회 경북도민체육대회는 오는 4월 3일부터 6일까지 안동시와 예천군 일원에서 개최되며, 도내 22개 시·군이 참가해 30개 종목에서 경쟁을 펼친다. 포항시는 이번 대회에 전 종목에 걸쳐 1,300여 명의 선수단을 파견해 지난해에 이어 종합우승 2연패에 도전할 계획이다.
