전남도는 지난 7일 여수 KCL 전남CCU센터에서 ‘석유화학산업 위기대응 및 소부장(소재·부품·장비) 특화단지 협의체 회의’를 개최하고, 여수산단의 지속 가능한 발전 방안을 논의했다고 밝혔다.
이번 회의에는 전남도와 여수시, 도·시의회, 유관기관 및 산업계 관계자 30여 명이 참석했다. 주요 안건으로는 ▲2026년 여수 산업·고용위기 대응 지원사항 ▲소부장 특화단지 추진계획 ▲석유화학산단 마이크로그리드 구축방안 최종보고 ▲NCC(나프타분해시설) 감축 위기 대응 및 향후 발전 방향 등이 다뤄졌다.
전남도는 화학산업의 고부가가치화와 친환경 전환을 위해 ‘여수 화학산업 소부장 특화단지’ 유치에 사활을 걸고 있다. 이를 위해 지자체, 유관기관, 기업이 참여하는 발전협의체를 구성해 운영 중이며, 오는 4월 중 산업통상자원부의 소부장 특화단지 공모에 신청서를 제출할 계획이다.

현재 여수 석유화학산업은 나프타 가격 폭등과 공급 과잉으로 인해 기업의 생존이 위협받는 엄중한 상황이다. 전남도는 이를 극복하기 위해 정부 추경에 지역산업 위기대응 사업비 반영을 건의하는 한편, 산업위기지역 내 기업에 대한 산업용 전기요금 일부 국고 지원을 강력히 촉구하고 있다.
또한, 노동자들을 보호하기 위해 건강복지비, 구직활동수당, 긴급생계안정비 등 총 122억 원 규모의 고용위기 대응 대책을 추진하며 지역경제의 근간을 지키는 데 총력을 기울이고 있다.
