대전시교육청은 8일, ‘2026년 대전시 기능경기대회’가 열리고 있는 충남기계공업고등학교를 방문해 대회 운영 상황을 점검하고 참가 선수 및 관계자들을 격려했다고 밝혔다.
이번 대전시 기능경기대회는 지난 6일부터 10일까지 5일간 충남기계공고를 비롯한 9개 경기장에서 진행되고 있다. 총 30개 직종, 173명의 숙련기술인들이 참가해 각자의 기술력을 겨루고 있으며, 지역 직업계고 학생들의 참여가 두드러진다.
특히 대전 관내 8개 직업계고(충남기계공고, 유성생명과학고, 동아마이스터고, 대전도시과학고, 대전대성여자고, 계룡디지텍고, 대전생활과학고, 대전신일여자고)에서 19개 직종에 걸쳐 103명의 학생이 출전해 미래 산업을 선도할 기술 명장으로 성장하기 위한 치열한 경쟁을 펼치고 있다.
이날 현장을 찾은 대전시교육감은 직접 경기장을 둘러보며 학생 선수들의 땀과 열정이 담긴 도전을 응원하고, 대회를 준비해온 지도교사와 기술위원들의 노고에 감사를 전했다.
이어 열린 협의회에는 대전광역시 정무경제과학부시장, 기능경기대회 운영위원장을 비롯한 관계자들이 참석해 직업교육 활성화와 지역 기술 인재의 정착 여건 조성 방안을 논의하고 대회 운영 상황을 점검했다.
한편, 이번 대전시 기능경기대회 입상자들에게는 오는 8월 인천에서 열리는 ‘제61회 전국기능경기대회’에 대전시 대표로 참가할 자격이 주어진다.
