전남도는 지난 8일 도청에서 관계 공무원과 업계 종사자들이 참석한 가운데 ‘천일염 산업 활성화 간담회’를 열고 산업 생태계 강화 방안을 집중 논의했다고 밝혔다.
현재 천일염 업계는 중동 전쟁 등 불안정한 국제 정세와 소비 위축의 영향으로 심각한 경영난을 겪고 있다. 실제로 천일염 가격(20kg 기준)은 2025년 1월 1만 2천846원에서 같은 해 12월 8천322원으로 떨어진 데 이어, 올해 3월에는 6천673원까지 하락하며 하락세가 지속되고 있다.
이날 간담회에서는 이러한 위기를 극복하기 위해 ▲염전 근로자 실태조사를 통한 인력난 해소 ▲천일염 소비 촉진 및 글로벌 수출 확대 전략 ▲원산지 표시 강화 등 산업 전반을 아우르는 주요 과제들이 심도 있게 다뤄졌다.
전남도는 특히 수출 판로 개척을 위해 중국 내 자매·우호 교류 도시를 적극 활용하고, 품질 규격화를 위한 ‘소금 특화 생산단지’ 조성을 추진하기로 했다. 또한 현장의 비용 부담을 덜기 위해 염전용 전기요금의 농사용 전환과 저장창고 지원 확대 등을 중앙정부에 지속적으로 건의할 방침이다.
