13일 신안섬바나나사회적협동조합에 따르면, 현재 신안 도초면과 비금면, 팔금면 등 3곳에서 청년농업인 24명이 참여해 전국 최대 규모인 5ha 면적에서 바나나를 재배하고 있다. 이곳의 연간 생산량은 약 196톤에 달한다.
신안 바나나는 지난 2024년 9월부터 농약을 전혀 사용하지 않는 친환경 농법으로 재배되었으며, 2025년 6월 무농약 인증을 획득하며 안정성과 신뢰를 확보했다. 특히 자체 선별장과 저온·유통시설을 완비해 신선도를 유지하고 있으며, 일반 바나나보다 식감과 당도가 월등히 뛰어나다는 평가를 받고 있다.
