청와대가 14일 한국계 미셸 스틸(한국명 박은주) 전 연방 하원의원이 주한 미국대사에 지명된 것 관련해 "스틸 주한대사 내정자가 향후 정식 임명되면 한·미 관계 강화 및 한·미 국민 간 우정 증진 등을 위해 기여할 걸로 기대한다"고 밝혔다.
청와대는 이날 오전 언론 공지에서 "미 측이 스틸 전 하원의원을 주한 미국대사로 공식 지명한 걸 알고 있다"며 이같이 전했다.
1955년 서울 출생 스틸 전 의원은 한국계 미국인 정치인으로 지난 1975년 가족과 함께 미국으로 이주한 가운데 캘리포니아주에서 연방 하원의원(2021~2025년)을 지냈다.
