언어의 장벽을 넘어 지역 사회의 당당한 일원으로 뿌리 내리기 위한 외국인 근로자들의 배움 열기가 금산의 밤과 주말을 뜨겁게 달구고 있다.
금산군가족센터는 관내 외국인 근로자 및 계절근로자를 대상으로 실생활과 일터에서 바로 활용할 수 있는 ‘외국인 주민 맞춤형 한국어 교육’을 본격화하며 정착 지원에 박차를 가하고 있다고 14일 밝혔다.
이번 교육은 의사소통 문제로 일상생활은 물론 근로 현장에서 크고 작은 어려움을 겪는 외국인 주민들의 불편을 해소하고, 이들이 안정적으로 지역 사회에 녹아들 수 있도록 돕기 위해 마련됐다.
현재 금산군가족센터와 군북면 소재 대동고려홍삼 공장 두 곳에서 교육이 진행 중이며, 각각 15명 내외의 외국인 근로자가 참여하고 있다.
가장 큰 특징은 근로자들의 생활 패턴을 고려한 ‘시간의 유연함’이다. 정규 근무 시간 중 교육 참여가 사실상 불가능한 점을 감안해, 가족센터에서는 매주 수요일 오후 7시부터 9시까지 야간 수업을 운영한다.
또한, 대동고려홍삼 공장에서는 일요일 오전 9시부터 오후 1시까지 주말 집중 수업을 진행해 근로자들의 접근성을 획기적으로 높였다.
교육 과정 또한 기존의 이론 중심에서 벗어나 철저히 ‘현장 중심’으로 짜였다.
