지방 도시가 아니다. 북한 최대의 가공업이 발달한 도시로서 이곳은 북한 시장 유통망의 중심이며 전국 상인들이 모이는 거대한 도매시장이다. 새벽이 되면 평성은 10만명이 모이는 하나의 거대한 시장으로 변한다.
