브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= LG유플러스는 부산교통공사와 함께 부산도시철도 열차 내 와이파이 서비스를 5G 기반으로 고도화하며, 고객의 무선인터넷 이용 환경 개선에 나선다고 15일 밝혔다.
LG유플러스는 부산교통공사가 운영하는 부산도시철도 열차 와이파이망을 기존 LTE 기반에서 5G 기반으로 전환한다. 부산도시철도는 3.5㎓ 주파수 대역의 LG유플러스 5G 백홀을 적용해, 더 빠르고 안정적인 무선인터넷 서비스를 제공한다.
특히, 이용객이 집중되는 출퇴근 시간대 접속 지연과 끊김 현상을 줄이고, 영상 시청 등 대용량 데이터 전송 환경도 한층 개선될 전망이다.
이번 사업은 지난 9일 발표한 과학기술정보통신부와 이동통신 3사의 대중교통 통신 서비스 품질 향상 정책 기조와도 궤를 같이한다. 서울, 수도권 도시철도 와이파이 고도화에 이어 이번 부산 도시철도 고도화도 추진하게 됐으며, 향후 전국적으로 확대해 나갈 예정이다.
공사와 LG유플러스는 현재 일부 열차에 5G 서비스를 시범 적용하고 있으며, 연내 전 노선 열차로 서비스를 확대할 계획이다.
감충렬 LG유플러스 경남인프라담당은 “부산도시철도 열차 와이파이의 5G 전환은 고객이 이동 중에도 보다 안정적인 무선인터넷 환경을 이용할 수 있도록 하기 위한 품질 고도화 작업”이라며 “앞으로도 부산교통공사와 협력해 시민이 체감할 수 있는 통신 품질 개선과 대중교통 이용 편의 향상에 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.
