대한민국 대표브랜드 선정위원회가 주관한 이번 시상에서 단양군은 브랜드 인지도와 마케팅 활동, 선호도 등 전 평가 항목에서 고르게 높은 평가를 받으며 대한민국을 대표하는 귀농귀촌 도시로서의 위상을 다시 한번 확인했다.
특히 단양군은 최근 3년간 매년 1,000명 이상의 귀농귀촌인을 유치하며 뚜렷한 성과를 이어가고 있다.
인구 3만 명 규모의 지역에서 이 같은 실적을 거둔 것은 단양군의 귀농귀촌 정책이 단순한 지원을 넘어 실질적인 인구 유입과 안정적인 지역 정착으로 이어지고 있음을 보여준다.
군의 귀농귀촌 정책은 준비 단계부터 정착, 지역사회 융화까지 전 과정을 아우르는 체계적인 지원 시스템이 강점이다.
준비 단계에서는 ‘단양에서 살아보기’ 프로그램을 통해 3개월간 주거와 연수 기회를 제공하고, 수료자에게는 12개월간 최대 240만 원의 주거 임차료를 지원해 초기 정착 부담을 덜고 있다.
또 ‘충북형 귀농귀촌 보금자리’와 ‘단양 이음터’ 조성에도 힘을 쏟으며 체류에서 정착으로 이어지는 기반 마련에 나서고 있다.
초기 정착 단계에서는 귀농인 정착장려금을 가구원 수에 따라 최대 600만 원까지 지원하고, 소형 농기계 지원과 비닐하우스 신축 지원, 주택 수리비 지원 등 실질적인 영농 기반 조성 정책도 함께 추진하고 있다.
특히 주택 수리비 지원은 지난해부터 대상을 귀농인에서 귀촌인까지 확대해 보다 많은 이주민이 안정적인 주거환경에서 생활할 수 있도록 했다.
단양군의 귀농귀촌 정책은 단순한 이주 지원에 그치지 않고 지역과 함께 성장하는 정착 모델을 만드는 데에도 초점을 맞추고 있다.
귀농귀촌인 재능나눔 활동지원 사업을 확대해 다양한 분야의 전문성을 가진 귀농귀촌인들이 지역사회에 참여하고 기여할 수 있는 여건도 넓혀가고 있다.
전국 최초로 추진 중인 ‘주민주도형 귀농귀촌 활성화 시범사업’도 눈길을 끈다.
이 사업은 2025년부터 2027년까지 3년간 추진되며 연간 700세대 유치를 목표로 하고 있다.
