Yangju City Envisions the Future Through Communication with Citizens for the ‘2040 Yangju Urban Master Plan’

[Break News Yangju = Reporter Kim Wan-young] Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyeon) formed a Citizen Planning Group to allow citizens to directly participate in the process of establishing the ‘2040 Yangju Urban Master Plan,’ and held an appointment ceremony and the first meeting on the 14th at the main conference room in the basement of Yangju City Hall.
The Citizen Planning Group operates to present citizens' opinions and ideas during the process of establishing Yangju City’s future vision and implementation strategies.
At the appointment ceremony, attended by the Mayor and other officials, letters of appointment were presented to the newly formed 50-member Citizen Planning Group, and discussions were held to set a future vision that resonates with citizens.
Yangju City previously recruited participants for the Citizen Planning Group through a public announcement from February 12 to March 3, selecting a total of 50 members, including 19 recruited through open recruitment and 31 recommended by Eup, Myeon, and Dong districts.
The Citizen Planning Group is divided into four subcommittees: Subcommittee 1 (Urban Planning & Transportation), Subcommittee 2 (Economy, Industry, & Tourism), Subcommittee 3 (Landscape, Environment, Disaster Prevention & Safety), and Subcommittee 4 (Culture, Education, & Welfare). The group plans to reflect expertise and citizen opinions in each respective field.
Moving forward, the Citizen Planning Group plans to generate diverse ideas regarding Yangju City's future vision and development direction 20 years from now through a total of four meetings. The opinions presented are scheduled to be reflected in the ‘2040 Yangju Urban Master Plan.’
The ‘2040 Yangju Urban Master Plan’ is the highest-level statutory plan that outlines Yangju City's spatial structure and development direction for the next 20 years. The city plans to prepare a draft plan by gathering diverse opinions from the Citizen Planning Group, and then apply for approval from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, the approving authority, following administrative procedures such as public hearings, consultation with the City Council, and advice from the Urban Planning Committee.
Jeong Seung-nam, Director General of the Urban Housing Bureau, stated, "Yangju City will establish a foundation for a sustainable city by formulating a customized future strategy incorporating the voices of citizens in collaboration with the Citizen Planning Group, in line with changing urban conditions."
