[브레이크뉴스=이성용기자] 창원시는 15일 오전 11시 접견실에서 데이비드 제 주부산 미국영사와 만나 향후 미국과의 경제·문화·예술 등 전반적인 국제협력 방안을 논의하는 시간을 가졌다.
이날 창원시 방문은 주부산 미국영사관의 요청으로 이뤄졌으며, 데이비드 제 영사는 허성무 창원시장과 만남을 갖고 상호 우호 협력방안을 논의하면서, 코로나를 넘어서 새시대(New-era)를 대비하기 위한 도시외교 방안 등에 대한 심도깊은 대화를 나눴다.
데이비드 제 영사는 허 시장의 환대에 감사를 전한 뒤 양측의 우호협력을 위해 미국영사관이 앞장서겠다.
시는 매년 군항제, K-pop 페스티벌 등 국제행사 개최시 주한미영사를 초청하여 우리시의 글로벌 위상을 제고하고, 미국 국제 자매우호도시들과 행정·경제·문화 등 모든 분야에서 교류를 이어오고 있으며 미국 잭슨빌시와 1983년 국제자매도시 체결 이후 문화 및 청소년 교류 등으로 꾸준한 관계를 이어오고 있고 2019년에는 북미지역 순방을 통해 공공의료 서비스의 확대를 선도적으로 이끄는 볼티모어시와 국제우호도시 협약을 체결해 미국과의 우호 관계를 내실있게 발전시켜 나가고 있다.
