고양시 킨텍스 제2전시장에서 열린 2022 고양 세계태권도품새선수권대회가 4월 24일 폐회식을 끝으로 나흘간의 열전을 마무리했다.
대회에는 63개국 972명이 출전해 역대 최대 참가를 기록했으며 36개 종목에 걸쳐 272명이 메달을 수상했다.
조직위에 따르면 대회 기간 관람객은 12,000여 명에 이르는 등 국내외 태권도인 및 일반인의 뜨거운 관심과 성원 속에서 열렸다.

폐회식은 고양시 재즈밴드 차유빈 콰르텟의 오프닝 공연으로 시작했다.
경기 내내 1,700여석을 가득 메운 관중은 선수단과 자리를 함께하며 박수를 보냈다.
주요 공식행사는 약식으로 간소하게 치러졌다.
부문별 수상자 종합시상과 하이라이트 영상 상영, 홍보대사인 K-타이거즈의 환송공연이 진행됐다.

K-타이거즈 공연단 100명은 국악기와 태권동작의 콜라보, 국악과 대중가요, K팝 및 팝송에 맞춰 화려한 공연을 선보여 관중의 탄성과 박수를 이끌었다.
2022 고양 세계태권도품새선수권대회는 태권도에서 올림픽을 제외한 두 번째 상위등급 대회다.
2018년 대만에서 열린 후 코로나19로 인해 2020년 덴마크 대회가 취소되어 4년 만에 열린 행사여서 큰 관심을 받았다.

특히 러시아 침공 상황에도 참가한 우크라이나 선수단 3명이 참가해 각국 선수단과 언론의 주목을 받았다.
대회 기간 동안 반기문 전 유엔 사무총장을 포함해 국내외 스포츠계 인사와 각국 대사 등 저명인사들의 방문도 줄을 이었다.
또한 친환경적인 폐페트병 활용한 조직위원회의 유니폼과 기념품도 관심을 받았다.

조직위원회는 “전세계 태권도인이 보여준 열정이 고양시를 뜨겁게 달궜다. 코로나 19상황에서 열린 이번 대회가 세계에 고양시를 평화의 도시로 널리 알리고 지역사회가 활기를 찾는 계기가 된 것 같다”고 전했다.
