광주시는 20일 시청 세미나실에서 ‘2026년 명예동물보호관 위촉식’을 개최했다고 밝혔다. 이번 위촉식은 성숙한 반려동물 문화를 정착시키고 동물 보호 체계를 강화하기 위해 마련됐다.
명예동물보호관은 앞으로 3년간 동물 보호·복지에 관한 교육 및 상담, 홍보 활동을 펼치며, 동물보호관의 직무를 지원하는 민관 협력의 가교 역할을 수행하게 된다.
이날 행사에서는 지난 1월 위촉된 신규 보호관 8명에게 위촉장이 수여됐으며, 전체 10명의 보호관을 대상으로 전문적인 직무 교육이 진행됐다. 이번 교육을 통해 보호관들은 활동에 필요한 법령 지식과 현장 대응 요령을 익히며 체계적인 활동 기반을 다졌다.
명예동물보호관들은 오는 5월부터 시민들이 많이 찾는 공원과 산책로 등 현장에 투입된다. 주요 활동으로는 ▲반려견 안전관리 준수사항 홍보 ▲동물등록제 계도 등이 포함된다.
