비단처럼 아름다운 산으로 둘러 쌓여있다는 금산은 여전히 아름답고 지금도 무한한 가능성을 품고 있다. 금강은 그 산들의 기암절벽과 꽃과 나무로 우거진 34 킬로미터를 구비 구비 돌며 계절별로 자연과 어우러진 환상적인 풍경을 만들어 준다. 그 산들이 감싸 안아 품고 있는 대지에는 하늘의 축복이 닿아 인삼에 약효를 머금고 자라게 하여 세계인삼의 성지로 자리매김해 나가고 있다.
그러나 그동안 자치단체장들의 노력에도 불구하고 인삼은 획기적으로 차별화가 되지 못하고 있고 자연경관을 활용한 관광명소도 주목을 받지 못하고 있다. 지역경제를 선도할 이렇다 할 활성화 방안도 많지 않아 점차 인구가 줄어들고 있는 상황이다.
민선8기 박범인 군수가 의욕적으로 세계화 팀을 만들고 인삼의 세계화, 금산인삼민속촌 등 금산의 새 시대를 열어갈 다양한 청사진을 꾸며 박차를 가하고 있고 시간을 쪼개어 금산의 새로운 미래를 위하여 힘겨운 노력을 기울이고 있다. 그러나 장판파의 조자룡처럼 단기필마 고군분투하는 모습을 보며 그 큰 뜻을 헤아려 함께 해줄 공직의 동지들이 아쉽게 느껴진다.
이번에 성경의 내용을 문화적으로 풀어내어 종교를 초월한 빅 이벤트로 바이블엑스포를 추진하려고 구상하고 있었다. 금산을 세계적인 시선을 모아 고려인삼민속촌의 추진동력을 함께 만들어 가려는 의도이다. 그래서 금산군민의 오피니언리더격인 사람들이 뜻을 모아 바이블엑스포 추진을 위한 발대식을 가졌다.
그런데 아직 군청 내부에서 행사기획에 대한 이견들이 있어 결론에 도달하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 성경이라는 주제가 종교적이라 특정종교에 대한 특혜이고 정교분리원칙에 위배될 소지가 있으며 사업추진주체가 실행능력과 자금을 가지고 있느냐 등 앞으로 많은 문제에 대한 고민들을 하고 있는 것 같다.
리스크에 대한 당연한 공직자로서 문제제기일 것이다. 그러나 지금의 금산군이 지닌 현실이라면 금산의 미래를 책임지고 있는 공직자로서는 더 넓은 시야로 금산군의 미래를 바라보아 주어야 하는가 하는 생각이 앞선다.
세계적인 카니발이나 축제는 기원을 보면 모두 종교에서 나왔다. 서울시가 매년 추진했던 루미나리에도 기독교성자들을 기리는 촛불 축제에서 시작되어 지금도 전 세계적으로 행사가 활발히 이루어지고 있으며 우리나라에서도 팔관회 등 불교적인 영향을 받아 등축제가 같은 행사도 있고, 지역별 전통토템을 주제로 하는 행사들이 전국적으로 다양하게 펼쳐지고 있다.
성경에 이야기들을 문화적, 예술적으로 풀어내어 전시 연출하여 축제로 만들어 지는 것을 위법으로 확대 해석하는 것에 의문이 든다.

투자자들은 인구가 밀집하여 최고의 흥행을 담보해줄 수도권에서 해야 한다는 의견이었고, 명분상으로는 김대건신부가 최초로 닿은 강경포구를 가진 논산시나 성경을 최초로 전달했던 마량포구를 지닌 서천에서 해야 한다는 의견이 압도적이었지만 감독은 어떤 연유에서인지 머릿속에 담은 킬러콘텐츠를 염두에 두고 금산을 고집하였다.
그런데도 금산군 일부에서는 송도 바이블엑스포 실패에 대한 여러 문제들을 기획자의 잘못으로 돌려 바이블엑스포는 문제가 있다고 반대한다고 들었다. 영화를 제작하는데 제작실패를 감독에게 묻지 않는다. 당시의 투자자와 조직위 대표와 임직원들이 실패한 것을 감독이 책임질 일은 아니다. 만약 임권택 감독이 서편제라는 시나리오를 가지고 제작자와 제작하려했다가 실패했다고 서편제는 문제가 있어 제작하면 안 되고 임권택 감독은 문제가 많은 사람이라 감독을 하면 안 된다, 라는 논리와 비슷하다.

아마도 박범인 금산군수가 간절히 바라고 꿈꾸는 금산의 미래의 모습일 것이다.
