브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 지난해 6·1지방선거 인천시교육감 선거에서 최계운 후보를 상대로 허위 논문표절 의혹을 제기한 도성훈 후보 선거캠프 관계자가 법정구속됐다.
인천지법 제15형사부(류호중 부장판사)는 10일 열린 1심 선고공판에서 지방교육자치에 관한 법률 위반, 출판물에 의한 명예훼손 혐의로 기소된 도성훈 교육감 선거캠프 관계자 A씨(62)에게 징역 1년을 선고하고 법정구속했다.
A씨는 지난해 5월 최계운 후보가 논문을 표절했다는 허위 의혹을 담은 보도자료를 2차례 작성해 배포한 바 있다.
당시 A씨가 배포한 보도자료에는 "최계운 후보 논문 표절률은 88%", "표절 검사 사이트인 '카피킬러' 통해 검사한 결과 거의 다 베꼈다" 등의 표현을 써가며 최 후보를 비난했다.
이에 재판부는 "피고인은 오류가 있는 논문 표절 검사 결과를 바탕으로 선거를 불과 6일 앞둔 시점에 허위 보도자료를 작성해 100여명의 기자들에게 배포했다"면서 "당시 근소한 표 차가 난 선거 결과에 중대한 영향을 미친 점 등을 고려했다"고 판시했다.

An official at the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education's election camp, Do Sung-hoon, who raised suspicions of plagiarism of Choi Gye-woon's false thesis during the June 1 local elections last year, was arrested in court.
The 15th Criminal Division (Chief Judge Ryu Ho-jung) of the Incheon District Court sentenced Do Sung-hoon (62), who was indicted on charges of violating the Local Education Autonomy Act and defamation by publications, to one year in prison and arrested him in court.
In May last year, A wrote and distributed two press releases containing false allegations that Choi Gye-woon, a candidate for Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, plagiarized his thesis.
In the press release distributed by A at the time, he criticized the other candidate by using expressions such as "The plagiarism rate of Choi Gye-woon's thesis is 88%" and "As a result of inspection through the plagiarism inspection site 'Copykiller'."
In response, the court ruled, "The defendant wrote a false press release just six days before the election based on the results of the plagiarism test of the erroneous paper and distributed it to more than 100 reporters," adding, "We considered the fact that it had a significant impact on the election results."
