브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= "정치권에서 소위 싸가지 없다는 비판을 받으며 능력 여하를 불문하고 퇴출되듯이 축구나 스포츠계에서도 그런 논리는 그대로 적용된다"
홍준표 대구시장이 최근 논란이 되고 있는 축구 국가대표팀의 이강인 선수(23·파리 생제르맹)를 겨냥해 쓴소리를 쏟아냈다.
홍준표 시장은 16일 자신의 페이스북을 통해 "정치 잘하고 공 잘차기에 앞서 선후배는 서로 존중해야 하는데 잠깐 떴다고 싸가지 없이 행동하는 사람은 팀워크를 해치게 돼 대표팀의 경기력을 저하시킨다"며 "더구나 축구와 같은 단체경기에서는 팀워크가 중요하기 때문에 더더욱 그렇다"고 지적했다.
이어 그는 "이참에 대표선수도 싸가지 없는 사람, 겉멋에 취해 헛발질 일삼는 사람은 정리하라"면서 "국민적 행사인 대표팀 경기를 축제로 즐길 수 있도록 그런 사람은 퇴출시키라"고 했다.
홍 시장은 이강인 선수를 직접적으로 언급하지는 않았으나, 이같은 발언은 이강인을 겨냥한 것으로 풀이된다. 이강인 선수는 아시안컵 준결승 요르단전 전날 자신보다 9살 많은 대표팀 주장 손흥민(32·토트넘 훗스퍼)과 몸싸움을 벌이는 등 갈등의 중심에 서 있다.
이강인 선수는 지난 14일 자신의 인스타그램을 통해 "제가 앞장서서 형들의 말을 잘 따랐어야 했는데 축구 팬들에게 좋지 못한 모습을 보여드리게 돼 죄송스러울 뿐"이라며 "저에게 실망하셨을 많은 분께 사과드린다"고 공개사과를 했지만 비난 여론은 사그라들지 않고 있다.
