브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 전 축구 국가대표 이천수 서수가 인천 계양을 출마를 선언한 원희룡 국민의힘 예비후보의 후원회장을 맡기로 했다.
원희룡 후보 캠프는 22일 이천수 선수가 원 후보의 후원회장을 맡기로 했다고 밝혔다.
이천수 선수는 초등학교 1학년 때 이사온 뒤 고려대 진학 전까지 쭉 계양에서 자랐다면서 각별한 계양 사랑을 나타냈다.
이천수 선수는 후원회장을 수락한 뒤 “정치를 잘 모르지만, 원희룡 후보라면 계양 발전을 위해 적합하다고 생각했다”면서 “국토교통부 장관을 역임한 원 후보의 능력과 풍부한 경험이 계양의 미래를 위해 반드시 필요하다”고 설명했다.
두 사람의 인연은 2016년부터 시작됐다. 이천수 선수는 “4강 신화를 만든 국가대표 선수들과 제주여고 축구부를 응원 방문하며 원 후보와 인연을 맺었다”며 “축구 꿈나무를 향한 진심 어린 모습에 인연을 이어왔다”라고 말했다.
