안양시가 2002년부터 개최해온 ‘안양사이버과학축제’의 명칭을 ‘안양 스마T움축제’로 새롭게 변경한다고 지난 2월 13일 밝혔다.
안양시 과학축제는 2002년 ‘안양사이버축제’로 문을 열어 2009년 제8회부터는 ‘안양사이버과학축제’란 이름으로 개최해왔다.
지난해에는 시 승격 50주년 및 축제 20주년을 맞아 ‘상상을 현실로! 우리가 만드는 스마트세상’ 이라는 슬로건으로 안양체육관 일원에서 4만여 명에 이르는 시민들이 참여했다.
축제 메인 테마인 로봇테마존, 3D프린팅, 코딩, 드론, 메타버스, VR·AR 액티비티존 등을 체험할 수 있었으며, 특히 경기도 최초로 4개국(미국, 영국, 싱가폴, 일본) 국제과학문화교류관을 운영하여 국제적인 과학 체험도 제공한 바 있다.
안양시는 올해 21주년을 맞이하여 과학축제 20주년을 넘어 4차산업혁명 시대의 급변하는 과학기술 트렌드에 발맞추고자 지난해 ‘안양시 정보화 조례’를 개정해 IT 및 과학기술 체험 축제 추진의 근거를 마련하는 한편, 지난 1월 10일부터 과학축제의 새로운 이름을 찾기 위한 대시민 공모를 진행했다.
열흘간의 공모를 통해 총 153건의 제안이 접수됐고, 담당 부서 및 축제추진위원회에서 상징성과 적합성, 대중성, 창의성 등을 기준으로 심사를 거쳐 최우수작 1개와 우수작 9개를 선정했다. 최종 선정된 명칭은 ‘안양 스마T움 축제’로, 안양시민과 함께(Together) 스마트한 과학기술(Technology)의 미래(Tomorrow)를 싹틔워가는 시민참여형 과학축제의 의미를 담았다.
제21회 ‘안양 스마T움 축제’는‘드론’을 테마로 하여 오는 6월 1일과 2일 양일간 안양체육관에서 개최될 예정이다. 최대호 안양시장은 “올해부터 새로운 이름으로 개최되는 ‘안양 스마T움 축제’가 20년의 역사를 넘어 명실공히 대한민국 대표 과학축제로 자리매김할 수 있도록 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 말했다.

Anyang City announced on the 13th that it would change the name of the ‘Anyang Cyber Science Festival’, which has been held since 2002, to ‘Anyang Smartwoom Festival’.
The Anyang City Science Festival opened in 2002 as the ‘Anyang Cyber Festival’ and has been held under the name of the ‘Anyang Cyber Science Festival’ since the 8th time in 2009.
