Office workers, average salary increase rate this year is 5.7%...more than half are dissatisfied
Break News Reporter Moon Hong-cheol= It was found that the average salary increase rate for office workers this year was around 5.7%. Although salaries have increased compared to last year, only a small number of office workers are satisfied with it.
According to Job Korea on the 28th, 632 male and female office workers who completed annual salary negotiations in 2024 were asked about the results of the salary negotiation, and 59.2% of office workers responded that their annual salary was ‘increased’ compared to last year.
Those who said their annual salary was ‘frozen’ at the previous year’s level were 38.4%, and 2.4% of office workers said their annual salary was ‘reduced’ this year compared to last year.
The average increase was calculated to be 5.7%, and the increase rate varied depending on the years of experience. The worker with the highest salary increase rate had 10 years of experience. The annual salary increase rate announced by them was an average of 6.5%, followed by 6.1% for workers with less than 3 years of experience, 5.6% for those with 5 years of experience, 4.8% for those with 15 or more years of experience, and 4.4% for those with 7 years of experience.
When asked, ‘Are you satisfied with this year’s salary increase?’, 52.4% of office workers answered ‘dissatisfied,’ and 33.9% chose ‘average.’ Only 13.8% of office workers were satisfied with this year’s increase rate.
The reason why office workers are dissatisfied with their annual salary increase appears to be because the actual annual salary increase rate is lower than expected. The average salary increase rate that office workers expected was 9.2%, which is 3.5% points higher than the actual salary increase rate.
In addition, office workers said that △the increase was low compared to their hard work (48.9%) △because the basic salary was low and the increase rate was unsatisfactory (30.5%) △because the increase rate seemed low compared to the company's sales performance (15.4%), etc. was cited as a reason for dissatisfaction with the salary increase.
Meanwhile, when asked how they acted as a sign of dissatisfaction with the salary increase, the response that they ‘started preparing for a job change’ was the highest with a response rate of 75.2%. Next, △ they did not concentrate on their work (23.3%) △ they requested a meeting with the department head (15.1%) △ they expressed their intention to leave the company (12.7%).
