윤석열 대통령이 1일 "속도가 경쟁력을 좌우하는 시대다. 속도 혁명에 박차를 가하겠다"며 "고속철도망을 전국적으로 확대해 '전국 2시간 생활권'을 실현하겠다"고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 대전 한국철도공사 본사에서 열린 고속철도(KTX) 개통 20주년 기념식에 참석해 "KTX-청룡을 오는 5월부터 경부·호남선에 투입하겠다"며 이같이 말했다고 대통령실이 전했다
이날 처음 공개된 신형 KTX-청룡은 운행 최고 속도가 시속 320㎞로 국내서 가장 빠른 가운데 국내 기술로 설계·제작한 최초의 시속 300㎞급 동력 분산식 고속열차다.기존 KTX-산천·산천Ⅱ 대비 객실 및 좌석 공간이 넓고‧감속 성능이 우수해 역 사이 간격이 짧은 한국 지형에 적합하다.
대통령실은 "윤 대통령은 청룡의 해를 맞아 힘차게 비상해 국민에 희망을 가져다주길 기원하는 의미로 국민 공모를 거쳐 신형 KTX 이름을 '청룡'으로 지었다"고 전했다.

이어 "1994년 프랑스 고속열차를 처음 도입했을 때 프랑스 연구진들이 '한국의\ 고속열차 국산화는 불가능할 것'이라고 예측했으나 우리나라는 2008년 KTX-산천을 생산해 세계 4번째 고속열차를 개발하고 상용화한 기적을 만들어 냈다"고 말했다.
