준공식은 주낙영 경주시장을 포함해 이철우 시의장, 정상희 경주시 자전거연맹 회장 등 200여 명이 참석했다.
‘경주시 자전거공원’은 면적 7800㎡ 규모로 전국 최대를 자랑한다. 펌프 트랙은 자전거를 패달링 없이 일정한 속도로 울퉁불퉁한 요철을 통과하며 자전거 라이딩 스킬을 올리고 더불어스릴을 즐길 수 있다.
무엇보다 별도의 이용요금 없이 무료로 즐길 수 있다는 것도 장점이다. ‘경주시 자전거공원’은 코스 디자인 등 전문가 자문을 받아 지난해 12월 완공한 후 미비점을 보완한 후 30일 정식 개장에 들어갔다.
전문가(고급)코스, 일반인(중급)코스, 어린이(초급)코스 등 난이도별로 코스가 갖춰져 자전거만 있다면 누구든 즐길 수 있다는 게 특징이다.
운영 시간은 오전 10시부터 오후 5시까지 연중무휴로 운영한다. 정식 개장에 따라 전국 자전거 동호인들의 경주 방문이 늘어 보문관광단지와 함께 관광산업 활성화에 도움이 될 것으로 기대가 모아진다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “시민은 물론 국내외 자전거 이용자들이 재미와 스릴을 느끼고 자전거 라이딩 기술을 높일 수 있는 전국 최고의 펌프 트랙 명소가 될 수 있도록 행정력을 집중하겠다”고 강조했다.
