오성환 당진시장이 22일 신평면 신흥리 이병섭 농가에서 지역주민과 농협 관계자 등 30여 명이 참석한 가운데 풍년 농사를 기원하는 모내기를 시연했다.
오 시장은 직접 이앙기를 운전하며 모내기 시연을 한 뒤 참석자들과 오찬을 나누며 영농현장의 애로사항을 청취했다.
이날 모내기 품종은 ‘당찬진미’로 2022년 당진시가 국립식량과학원과 함께 개발한 당진특화 쌀이다. ‘당찬진미’는 도정수율은 약간 낮은 편이나 외관 품위가 좋고 밥맛이 우수하다는 특징을 지닌다.
시는 올해 400헥타르 규모의 ‘당찬진미’ 시범단지를 조성해 당진형 명품쌀 브랜드를 상품화할 계획이다.
오 시장은 “고품질 당진 쌀 생산을 위해 농업 분야 지원에 지속적 관심을 가지겠다”라고 약속했다.
한편, 당진시는 적기 병해충 방제를 통한 고품질 쌀 생산 기반 조성을 위해 올해 12억여 원의 사업비를 투입해 모든 벼 재배 농가를 대상으로 벼 병해충 공동방제 약제비를 지원하고 있다.
