윤석열 대통령이 18일 '서이초 교사 사망 1주기'를 맞아 "1년 전 오늘 부푼 꿈을 안고 교단에 섰던 선생님께서 안타깝게 우리 곁을 떠나셨다. 아직도 정말 가슴 아프다"며 "진심으로 선생님 명복을 빌며 유가족·현장 선생님 여러분께 깊은 위로의 말씀을 드린다"고 밝혔다.

그러면서 "작년 여름 많은 선생님들과 국민들께서 주말마다 거리로 나와 교권을 바로 세우고 교육을 정상화해야 한다 외치셨다"며 "무거운 책임감을 느꼈다"고 적었다.
또 "선생님들 간절한 목소리에 귀 기울여 많은 노력을 쏟았다"며 "교권 보호 5법을 개정해 정당한 교권 행사를 법으로 보호하고 체계적 교권 보호 제도를 확립했다"고 전했다.
더불어 "현장에 긍정적 변화가 일어나고 있다. 교권 침해에 엄정한 조치가 취해지고 교원 기소 비율도 낮아지고 있다"며 "선생님·학생·학부모 모두가 행복한 반듯한 교육 현장을 만들어 가겠다"고 덧붙였다.
