경주시는 육부촌 광장에서 보문 선착장까지 구간 도로 명칭을 ‘보문로’에서 ‘한국관광1번로’로 변경한다고 31일 밝혔다.
해당 구간은 ‘보문로 424-1’에서 ‘보문로 424-34’ 구간으로 너비 16m에 연장 325m로 경북문화관광공사의 도로명 변경 추진요청에 따라 본격화됐다.
대한민국 관광컨벤션산업 발상지인 육부촌의 국가유산화는 물론 보문관광단지 개장 50주년을 기념하기 위함이 목적이라고 경주시는 설명했다.
특히 내년 개최될 ‘2025 APEC 정상회의’에 따른 보문단지의 상징성을 부각하기 위함도 또 다른 목적이다.
도로명 변경을 위해 앞서 경주시는 지난 15일부터 29일까지 경주시보, 홈페이지, 게시판 등을 통해 주민 의견을 수렴해 해당 구간 내 주소 사용자를 대상으로 동의도 전부 받은 상태다.
경주시는 주민 의견 수렴을 완료한 만큼, 다음달 열릴 주소정보위원회에서 무난히 통과될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “보문관광단지 내 대한민국 관광역사의 상징성을 기념하는 도로명이 없었으나, 이번 도로명 변경을 통해 그 상징성을 재조명하고자 한다”며 “경주시는 앞으로도 주소가 고유 지명이나 지역 특색을 나타낼 수 있도록 도로명 변경사업을 꾸준히 추진해 도로명주소가 일상생활 속에서 빠르게 정착될 수 있도록 하겠다”고 강조했다.

Gyeongju City to change Bomun-ro name to ‘Korea Tourism No. 1’
Gyeongju City is promoting the name change of the road name ‘Bomun-ro’ in Bomun Tourist Complex in time for the APEC Summit.
Gyeongju City announced on the 31st that it will change the road name from ‘Bomun-ro’ to ‘Korea Tourism No. 1’ from Yukbuchon Square to Bomun Pier.
The section is from ‘Bomun-ro 424-1’ to ‘Bomun-ro 424-34’, with a width of 16m and a length of 325m. The change was initiated in earnest in response to the request of the Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Organization to change the road name.
The city explained that the purpose is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of Bomun Tourist Complex as well as to make Yukbuchon, the birthplace of the tourism convention industry in Korea, a national heritage.
Another purpose is to highlight the symbolism of Bomun Complex in response to the ‘2025 APEC Summit’ to be held next year.
In order to change the road name, Gyeongju City collected opinions from residents through the Gyeongju City Bulletin, homepage, and bulletin board from the 15th to the 29th, and received consent from all users of addresses within the relevant section.
Since Gyeongju City has completed collecting opinions from residents, it is expected to pass smoothly at the Address Information Committee to be held next month.
Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju said, “There was no road name that commemorates the symbolism of Korean tourism history in Bomun Tourist Complex, but we want to shed new light on that symbolism through this road name change,” and emphasized, “Gyeongju City will continue to push forward with the road name change project so that addresses can represent unique place names or regional characteristics, so that road name addresses can quickly become established in everyday life.”
