브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 500대 기업이 보유한 국내 인공지능(AI) 관련 특허가 1500건을 넘어선 것으로 집계됐다. AI 특허 등록 건수가 가장 많은 기업은 ‘삼성전자’였으며, LG전자, 네이버, SK텔레콤 등이 뒤를 이었다.
또한, 국내 특허청에 등록된 AI 관련 전체 특허 건수는 총 1만6211건에 달했다. 기업 외에도 한국과학기술원, 서울대학교 등 주요 대학과 한국전자통신연구원, 국방과학연구원 등 연구기관 등이 AI 특허등록에 적극적 행보를 보였다.
7일 CEO스코어에 따르면 올해 매출 기준 500대 기업 중 국내 특허청에 AI 관련 17개(지능형로봇·자연어처리·컴퓨터비전·음성인식 등) CPC코드로 분류되는 특허를 등록한 111개 기업을 대상으로 조사한 결과, 이들 기업의 AI 관련 특허는 총 1503건(지난달 12일 기준)에 달했다.
500대 기업의 AI 특허 등록 건수는 2014년 3건에 불과했지만, 2016년 프로 바둑기사 이세돌과 구글 딥마인드가 개발한 ‘알파고’(AlphaGo) 간 바둑 대결을 계기로 증가하기 시작했다.
특히, 2020년 이후 전 세계적인 AI 열풍을 타고 대기업의 AI 특허 등록건수가 급증세를 기록, △2020년 142건 △2021년 303건 △2022년 332건 △2023년 403건을 기록했다.
500대 기업 중 AI 특허 등록 건수가 가장 많은 곳은 총 387건을 등록한 삼성전자였다. 이어 △LG전자(154건) △네이버(90건) △SK텔레콤(78건) △한국전력공사(54건) △한화시스템(52건) △KT(45건) △LIG넥스원(41건) △쿠팡(39건) △현대자동차(36건) 등이었다.
이들 기업들이 가장 많이 특허 등록한 AI 분야는 학습방법(687건) 이었으며, 머신러닝(567건), 딥러닝(130건), 음성인식(117건), 뉴로모픽회로(81건) 등도 높은 비중을 차지했다.
대기업을 비롯해 국내 전체 AI 특허등록 건수도 2016년 알파고 등장 이후 급증한 것으로 조사됐다. 2020년 이후에도 코로나19 팬데믹으로 기업의 디지털 혁신과 비대면 서비스에 대한 수요가 늘면서 또 한 차례 크게 늘었다.
2014년(18건) 이후부터 2023년(4559건)까지 국내 AI 관련 전체 특허 등록 수는 9년 간 약 253배로 증가했다. 연도별로 살펴보면 △2016년 60건 △2017년 146건 △2018년 307건 △2019년 767건 △2020년 1571건 △2021년 2992건 △2022년 3790건 △2023년 4559건에 이르렀다.
대학과 연구기관 등이 보유한 건수도 상당수를 차지해 △한국과학기술원(349건) △서울대학교(336건) △연세대학교(287건) △한국전자통신연구원(259건) △고려대학교(226건) △한양대학교(175건) △국방과학연구소(163건) 등이 높은 건수를 기록했다.
이들 중 공동출원 특허 등록 수가 가장 많은 출원인은 서울대학교(108건)였으며, △한국과학기술원(80건) △연세대학교(50건) △울산대학교(46건) △아산사회복지재단(45건) 등이었다.
이중 서울대는 산업계와의 협력을 통한 특허 출원이 활발하게 진행됐다. 삼성전자의 AI 특허 387건 중 44건은 공동출원 특허로 서울대학교 산학협력단과의 공동출원이 11건에 달했다.
