기독교복음선교회(JMS) 언론홍보국은 “반JMS 활동가 한 사람이 서울서부지검 검사를 겨냥해 '대통령상까지 수상한 조 PD가 성폭력범죄의 처벌 등에 관한 특례법 위반혐의로 기소됐다. 민원제기에 동참해 달라'며 담당 검사의 인적사항까지 공개해 논란을 자초했다.”고 설명했다.
어느 단톡 방에서는 검찰에 송치된 A PD를 구해야 한다는 주장들이 올라오고 있다. 정경시사 Focous 8월17일 자는 이 문제를 기사화 했다. 이 매체는 “검찰은 ‘나는 신이다’ 제작 PD에 이어 악성 민원교사 사주범도 수사하라” 제목의 기사(필자/류재복 발행인)에서 이 문제를 다뤘다. 이 매체는 “JMS 광신도들이 이러한 목적으로 제정된 성폭력특별법에 호소하면서 강간범 정명석의 실체를 폭로하여 대통령 표창을 받은 A PD를 고발하는 것이 가당키나 한 것인지 의문이 드는데, 하물며 마포경찰서는 혐의가 인정된다며 서부지검으로 송치를 하였으니 더욱 충격을 주고 있다. 더욱 가관인 것은, 성폭력 특별법 14조 4항은 '제1항 또는 제2항의 촬영물 또는 복제물을 소지, 구입, 저장 또는 시청한 자는 3년 이하의 징역 또는 3천만원 이하의 벌금에 처한다'고 규정하고 있다“라는 내용이 소개되고 있다고 전했다.

기독교복음선교회(JMS) 언론홍보국은 이 자료에서 “넷플릭스 ‘나는 신이다’ JMS 편은 문제가 된 선정적인 영상뿐만 아니라, 정명석 목사 발언과는 전혀 다른 성적인 내용으로 자막을 표기했다. 이 점에 대해서도 절대로 묵과하지 않을 것”이라는 입장을 밝혔다. 이어 “‘나는 신이다’ JMS 편은 다큐멘터리를 표방하면서 자극적이고 선정적인 영상은 물론 사실과 다른 허위 내용으로 질타를 받고 있기도 하다. 고소인 A씨가 제출한 97분 분량의 ‘녹음파일’을 조작해 ‘나는 신이다’ 방송에 사용했다는 의혹까지 제기된 상태다. 이 녹음파일은 정 목사 측 변호인이 항소심 재판 과정에서 국내외 여러 군데 전문 감정기관에 감정을 의뢰한 결과, 편집·조작된 것이 밝혀졌다”고, 보도자료를 통해 밝혔다.
넷플릭스 ‘나는 신이다’는 지난 2023년 3월에 방영됐는데, 당시 여성단체들도 ‘나는 신이다’에대해 “성적인 묘사와 관련해 음성, 영상자료를 반복적으로 배치하거나 신도들의 알몸을 모자이크 없이 공개하는 것은 음란물처럼 피해자를 전시한다”고 비판했었다. 이와 함께 “상업성과 이윤에만 목적을 둔 OTT(온라인동영상서비스) 업체들이 방송통신위원회 심의에서도 배제되는 것에 대해서도 문제가 있다”고, 문제점이 노출 됐다.
정명석 목사 항소심을 심리하고 있는 대전고법 형사3부(김병식 부장판사)는 이미 이전 공판에서 “녹음파일이 증거능력이 없다”고 보고 있다. 8월22일로 예정된, 6차 공판에서 녹음파일 감정과 관련된 증인신문에서 편집·조작이 사실로 드러나게 될 경우 재판 향방이 크게 달라질 것으로 보인다.

한편 조성현 PD는 8월20일 이에대한 입장문을 발표했다.
조성현 PD는 이 입장문에서 “서울 마포경찰서가 <나는 신이다>를 만든 저를 성폭력범죄의 처벌 등에 관한 특례법(성폭력처벌법) 위반 혐의로 서울서부지검에 사건 송치했다는 소식에 많이 놀라셨겠다 생각한다. 제가 마치 성범죄자가 된 것처럼 작성된 기사도 보였고, 이에 호응하는 JMS 신도들의 댓글과 환호도 목도했다”고 강조했다.
이어 “마포경찰서가 언급한 장면들은 현재 작품에서 볼 수 있듯 얼굴에 높은 수준의 모자이크가 적용되어 있다.
