[브레이크뉴스경기남부=용인 이현준기자] 용인특례시는 ‘도시 속 지식의 숲 동천도서관’ 개관식을 했다.
12일 이 시장과 시ㆍ도의회 의원, 동천동ㆍ풍덕천1동 주요 단체장, 시민 등 200여명이 참석했다.
이상일 시장은 기념사에서 “동천도서관이 오랜 기다림 끝에 문을 연 것을 축하드린다”며 “이곳 지형과 조화를 이룬 훌륭한 도서관이 탄생했으니 자주 오셔서 지식도 쌓고 힐링도 하고 이웃들과 정담도 나누는 소통의 공간으로 잘 활용하시기 바란다”고 말했다.
이 시장은 “요즘 젊은 세대 사이에선 독서를 통해 기쁨을 얻는 ‘독파민’이란 말과 독서를 즐기는 모습이 멋지다는 의미의 ‘텍스트힙(text hip)’이라는 말이 유행한다고 하는데, 이곳이 '독파민'이나 '텍스트힙'의 실증 현장이 되면 좋겠다”고 했다.
이 시장은 "동천도서관은 용인의 20번째 공공도서관"이라며 "시는 신봉동ㆍ보정동에도 공공도서관을 건립하고 처인구의 중앙도서관, 기흥구 구성도서관, 수지구 죽전도서관은 리모델링에 착수할 계획을 가지고 있는 등 앞으로도 적극적으로 도서관 시설을 확충하겠다"고 했다.

이 시장은 개관식 이후 참석자들과 함께 동천 도서관을 둘러보며 시설들을 살펴 봤다.
동천도서관은 용인특례시의 20번째 공공도서관으로 지하 2층~지상 2층 연면적 3,780㎡로 두 개 건물에 어린이 자료실, 책 마당, 책 숲, 책 정원, 야외 테라스 등을 갖췄다. 두 건물은 숲 사이에 위치해 도심 속에서도 숲의 향기를 느끼며 책을 읽을 수 있는 힐링 공간으로 조성됐다.
도서관은 약 3만1천여권의 장서를 보유하고 있으며, 자료·독서·열람이 통합된 개방형 공간에 다양한 컨셉의 독서·휴식 장소가 마련돼 시민들은 각자 선호하는 곳을 찾아 편안하게 책을 즐길 수 있다.
지하1층 미디어 갤러리에서는 총 5천여점의 예술작품도 만날 수 있다. 화면에 표기된 QR 코드를 통해 작품 설명도 볼 수 있는 작은 미술관인 셈이다.
동천도서관은 시민 선호도 조사를 통해 선정된 주제 ‘도시 숲’에 관한 다채로운 독서문화 프로그램을 운영할 예정이다.
시는 2028년까지 공공도서관을 24개로 확충하고 노후된 중앙도서관, 구성도서관, 죽전도서관, 동백도서관, 기흥도서관 리모델링을 2028년까지 순차적으로 진행할 계획이다.
