싱가포르를 국빈 방문한 윤석열 대통령이 8일(현지시간) 싱가포르 주롱 혁신지구 '현대차 글로벌 혁신센터'를 찾아 "인공지능(AI)·로봇을 결합한 자율 제조란 현대차 방식이 새로운 혁신을 선도하고 있다"고 말했다.
윤 대통령은 "자동차 산업 역사에서 100년 전 포드 컨베이어벨트 시스템과 50년 전 도요타 저스트 타임(적시생산)을 중요 혁신 사례로 여긴다"며 "여기서 시작된 혁신 시스템이 제조업에 AI를 융합하는 미래 공장의선도모델이 될 거라 확신한다"고 밝혔다.
이날 대통령실에 따르면 지난해 11월 준공된 '현대차 글로벌 혁신센터'는 컨베이어 벨트 방식 기존 자동차 생산공장과는 달리 AI·로봇이 셀(Cell)에서 제조하는 미래형 공장이다.
윤 대통령은 해외에서 대한민국 위상을 드높이는 기업을 찾아 임직원을 격려하고 한국의 우수 AI 자율제조 기술력을 알리기 위해 이곳을 방문했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 혁신센터에 도착해 정의선 현대차 회장 안내로 AI·로봇이 주도하는 자율주행차 생산 공정을 시찰했다. 또 공장에서 생성된 데이터를 활용해 가상 공간에서 공장을 작동하고 관리하는 '디지털 트윈 공장'을 살펴보며 임직원들과 의견을 나눴다.
이어 혁신센터 연구원 등 관계자들과 만나 "혁신센터가 단순 제조업이 AI 자율제조로 전환하는 미래공장 모델 케이스가 될 거라 확신한다"며 "AI 확산으로 대한민국 제조업 생산성이 획기적 개선될 수 있도록 정부가 적극 나서 지원하겠다"고 격려했다.
박춘섭 대통령실 경제수석은 "이번 방문으로 자동차 업계서 이뤄지고 있는 AI 자율제조가 우리 산업 전반으로 확산될 필요가 있음을 기업들이 다시 한번 공감하는 계기가 될 걸로 기대한다"고 전했다.
이 자리엔 현대차 정 회장·장재훈 사장·성 김 고문·최상목 경제부총리 겸 기획재정부 장관·안덕근 산업통상자원부 장관·조태열 외교부 장관·홍진욱 주싱가포르한국대사·대통령실 신원식 국가안보실장·박춘섭 경제수석·이도운 홍보수석 등이 참석했다.
