윤석열 대통령이 29일 쥐스탱 트뤼도 캐나다 총리와 전화 통화를 갖고 양국 간 안보방산 협력·북한 러시아 파병 문제 등 관련 의견을 나눴다고 대통령실이 전했다.
윤 대통령은 통화에서 "북한군의 우크라이나 실제 전선 투입이 예상보다 빠른 속도로 이뤄질 수 있는 엄중 상황"이라며 "한·캐나다 양국이 국제사회와 함께 강력하고 단합된 대응을 이어나가야 한다"고 강조했다.
그러면서 "조만간 캐나다서 열리는 '우크라이나 평화공식 장관급 회의'에 한국도 우크라이나 재건 지원 정부 대표를 보낼 것"이라고 했다.
또 "11월 1일 캐나다 오타와서 처음 개최되는 '외교·국방 2+2 장관회의' 계기로 양국 간 고위급 안보 대화가 제도화되길 바란다"고 밝혔다.
더불어 "양국이 포괄적 안보 협력을 증진해 나가는 데 방산 협력이 중요 의미를 갖는다"며 "향후 캐나다 국방력 증강 사업에 우리 기업이 참여해 호혜적 방산 협력을 강화해 나가길 희망한다"고 말했다.
이에 트뤼도 총리는 "북한군 러시아 파병으로 우크라이나 전쟁이 격화할 가능성이 커졌다"며 "이는 유럽·인도·태평양 지역 안보 전반에 영향을 줄 것인 만큼 양국이 긴밀히 공조하며 대응해 나가자"고 말했다.
그러면서 "양국이 외교·국방 2+2 장관회의'를 갖게 된 건 지난 2년간 양국 간 협력·우정 깊이가 그만큼 커졌고 양국이 국제사회 안보·경제에 더 큰 역할을 하게 됐음을 뜻한다"고 했다.
