브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 11일 의대 증원을 놓고 시작된 의료계와 정치권간 갈등 해소를 위해 '여당·야당·의료계·정부(여야의정)' 협의체가 출범했다.
협의체는 오는 12월말을 시한을 의료계 문제를 해결하겠다고 발표했지만 첫 회의부터 야당과 전공의 단체는 불참했다.
김성원 국민의힘 의원은 이날 여야의정 협의체 1차 회의를 마친 뒤 기자들과 만난 자리에서 "협의체가 12월 말까지 기한을 두고 운영한다"면서 "가능하면 12월 22일이나 23일 전에 의미있는 결과를 도출해서 국민들에게 크리마스 선물을 안겨주도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.
이어 그는 "오늘 대화의 첫걸음을 시작한 것에 의미를 두고 의료계와 정부와 당이 허심탄회하게 솔직한 대화를 나눴다"며 "어떻게 하면 효율적이고 성과를 낼 수 있는 협의체를 운영할 것인가에 대해 진지하게 논의했다"고 전했다.
회의에서 주요 다룰 문제는 '2025학년도 의대 정원 증원'과 '사직 전공의 복귀 문제' 등으로 전해졌다.
이에 대해 한지아 국민의힘 수석대변인은 "2025학년도 의대 증원에 대한 구체적인 부분은 얘기하지 않았지만 의제 제한이 없다는 원론적 부분을 이야기했다"라며, 증원에 대한 원점 재검토 논의도 있었으냐는 질문엔 "구체적인 얘기는 안했다"고 설명했다.
김성원 의원은 사직 전공의 문제에 대해선 "내년도 상반기 전공의 모집에서 사직 전공의가 응시해서 합격하더라도, 내년 3월 군에 입대해야 하는 상황에 대한 우려를 전달했고, 정부에서는 사직전공의의 복귀를 돕기 위해 진지하고 다양한 방법으로 협의체에서 논의하기로 했다"고 밝혔다.
한동훈 대표는 이날 비공개 회의에서 "국민 건강이 여야의정 협의체의 목적이고 방법은 소통인데, 민주당이 참석 안한 데 대해서는 큰 안타까움을 표시했다"는 취지의 비판을 했다고 한 수석대변인은 전했다.
한덕수 국무총리는 "많은 국민이 간절한 마음으로 지켜보고 계신다"면서 "의료진, 환자와 가족은 물론이고 의료현장을 떠난 1만2000명의 전공의들, 수업을 거부하고 있는 1만8000여명의 의대생 모두 이제는 갈등이 마무리되길 기다린다"고 말했다.
한덕수 총리는 이어 "의료개혁은 단순히 의사 수만 늘리는 게 아니다"라며 "의료 체질과 패러다임을 바꾸는 종합대책이고, 국민을 보호하고 지속 가능한 질 높은 의료시스템을 만들고자 하는 정부의 의지"라고 강조했다.
이날 회의에 참석한 이진우 대한의학회 회장은 "정부와 여당이 성의있는 태도를 보이지 않으면 의정 갈등은 결코 해결되지 않을 것"이라며 사상 초유의 의료 시스템 붕괴가 현실화되지 않도록 이번만큼은 정부와 여당이 위기 의식을 갖고 진정한 해결 의지를 보여달라"고 촉구했다.
