브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 미국 정부는 12일(현지시각) 러시아에 파병된 1만여명의 북한군들이 우크라이나와의 전투에 참여한 것으로 확인됐다고 밝혔다.
미국은 앞서 북한군 파병 사실과 쿠르스크 배치까지만 확인해줬으며 북한군의 전투 참여를 공식 확인해준 것은 이번이 처음이다.
AP통신 보도에 따르면 베단트 파텔 미국 국무부 수석부대변인은 이날 정례브리핑을 통해 "러시아 동부로 파견된 북한군 1만여명 중 상당수가 쿠르스크주 서쪽 끝으로 이동해 러시아군과 함께 전투작전에 참여한 것을 확인할 수 있었다"고 했다.
파텔 부대변인은 "러시아군은 북한군에게 포병, 무인항공기, 참호 개척 등 기본 보병작전을 훈련시켜왔다"면서 "이들간에는 상호 운용성, 언어 장벽, 지휘 및 통제, 통신 등 극복해야할 과제들이 있다. 러시아가 북한 병력을 얼마나 잘 통합하는지에 따라 전투 성패가 크게 좌우될 것"이라고 분석했다.
