충남 당진시는 기후 위기 대응 및 탄소흡수원 확충을 위해 추진한 ‘2024년 석문국가산업단지 기후 대응 도시숲 조성사업’을 성공적으로 완료했다고 밝혔다.
이 사업은 산업단지 입주기업의 근로환경 개선과 미세먼지 유입 차단을 목표로 하며, 2020년부터 5년간 진행되어 왔다.
당진시에 따르면 올해 사업비로는 총 26억 원이 투입되었으며, 이 중 13억 원은 국비, 나머지 13억 원은 지방비로 지원되었다.
이번 사업은 석문국가산업단지 내 공원과 녹지 면적 2헥타르(ha)에 서양측백, 해송, 느티나무, 꽃댕강, 좀작살나무 등 미세먼지 저감 능력이 뛰어난 산림청 권장 수종 2만 3,697본이 다열·복층구조로 심어져 밀도 높은 숲이 조성되었다.
당진시는 내년에도 기후 대응 도시숲 조성을 이어갈 계획으로, 총 20억 원의 사업비를 들여 ‘송산2일반산업단지’와 ‘석문국가산업단지’ 내 각각 1헥타르(ha)의 도시숲을 조성할 예정이다.
국립산림과학원의 연구에 따르면, 도시 숲은 일반 도심에 비해 평균적으로 미세먼지(PM10) 농도를 25.6%, 초미세먼지(PM2.5)는 40.9% 낮추는 효과가 있으며, 1만㎡의 숲은 대기 중 미세먼지 등 오염물질을 연간 168kg 줄일 수 있다.
또한, 도시 숲이 있는 지역은 한여름 평균 기온이 3∼7℃ 낮아지고, 습도는 9∼23% 증가하여 도심 열섬현상도 완화되는 것으로 나타났다.
