이용록 홍성군수가 지난 13일, 미국 로스앤젤레스 콘레드 LA 호텔에서 진행된 재외동포 유치 업무협약식에서 “내포신도시 및 홍성읍 일원에 대해 정주 여건을 적극적으로 개선하겠다”고 밝혔다.
이날 협약식에는 이용록 홍성군수와 김태흠 충청남도지사, 최재구 예산군수가 함께 참석한 가운데, 미국 LA의 레드포인트그룹 케빈 백 대표와 협력 양해각서를 체결했다.
협약의 핵심은 충청남도 내 재외동포 은퇴자마을 조성 및 지역 활성화를 위한 융복합 프로젝트 추진이다. 이를 통해 '홍성군과 예산군'은 ▲재미동포 유치사업을 위한 대상지 개발, ▲동포지원 인센티브 발굴에 나서며, '충남도'는 ▲재외동포들을 위한 시니어타운을 조성하고 커뮤니티 활성화를 위한 다양한 프로그램을 발굴할 계획이다. 레드포인트그룹은 이러한 프로젝트들의 성공적 추진을 위한 공동사업 발굴 및 협력사업을 담당하게 된다.
이번 협약을 통해 충청남도는 재외동포 및 외국인의 정착을 유도하고, 고령 인구 증가에 대응하기 위한 시니어타운을 차별화된 지역 모델로 제시했다.
이를 위해 도내 민간시설 및 유휴 부지를 활용한 민관 협력의 지역 활성화 프로젝트가 추진될 예정이다. 또한, 재미교포를 중심으로 한 외국인 빌리지나 기회발전특구와 연계된 프로젝트 사업도 구상되고 있다. 특히, 수도권과의 차별화를 꾀하며 고령화 사회에 맞춘 ‘생활복합 문화공간’으로서의 시니어타운 조성에 중점을 둔다.

미국 LA 레드포인트그룹의 케빈 백 대표는 “현재 시니어 교민들이 많아지고 있으며, 한국으로의 역이민이 늘고 있는 추세”라며, “우리 그룹은 충남 지역에 정착하는 교민들이 문화적 갈등 없이 잘 적응할 수 있도록 직원들을 파견해 지원할 것”이라고 말했다.
