22일 시에 따르면 황오동 142-1번지 일원에 일부 철도 부지를 활용한 황오황촌임시주차장을 올 1월 준공했다.

시는 1억 8000만 원의 예산을 들여 6702㎡ 면적에 157대 규모 주차장을 조성했다. 주차장에는 가로등 11개소, 투광기 2개소도 함께 설치했다.

앞서 시는 지난해 1월부터 경주역 폐역 후 인근 철도 유휴부지 활용을 위해 국가철도공단과 임시주차장 조성 협의를 진행해 왔다.

이어 지난해 9월부터 공사를 시행했으며, 당해 11월 국가철도공단 소유 국유재산 사용 허가를 승인받았다.

이번 임시주차장 조성으로 침체된 구도심 상권 활성화는 물론 인근 주민, APEC 행사 기간 경주를 찾는 방문객들이 주차 문제 해결에 큰 도움이 될 전망이다.

주낙영 경주시장은 “이번 임시주차장 준공으로 지역의 주차난을 완화하고 인근 상권 활성화에 큰 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다”고 말했다.
