세종시교육청이 UN대학(UNU) 산하 지속가능발전교육센터로부터 지속가능발전교육(ESD) 지역거점센터(RCE)로 공식 인증을 받았다.
이번 인증은 2024년 12월 10일 제19차 우분투 지역거점센터 평가위원회에서 결정되었으며, 세종시는 글로벌 지속가능발전교육 네트워크에 정식으로 참여하게 되었다.
세종 지속가능발전교육 지역거점센터는 교육을 통해 지속가능발전 목표(SDGs)를 달성하기 위해 다양한 기관과 지역사회의 협력으로 지속가능발전교육을 확산하고, 지역 특성에 맞는 교육 프로그램을 개발할 계획이다.
세종시교육청은 ‘미래를 여는 세종교육’이라는 비전 아래, 유아부터 성인까지 지속가능발전교육을 단계적으로 확대하고, 공공과 민간, 학계의 협력을 통한 체계적 운영을 추진할 예정이다.
또한, 세종시는 지속가능발전교육 국제 포럼 개최, 선도교원 양성, 청소년 기후행동협의회 운영 등 다양한 핵심 사업을 확대할 계획이다.
최교진 세종시교육감은 “이번 인증은 지속 가능한 지구 공동체와 인류의 미래를 위해 중요한 의미가 있다”며, “앞으로도 지역사회와 국제사회의 협력을 강화해 세계 속의 세종교육을 선도할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

Sejong City Office of Education Acquires UN Sustainable Development Education Regional Center Certification
Sejong City Office of Education has been officially certified as a Regional Center for Sustainable Development Education (RCE) by the Center for Sustainable Development Education under the United Nations University (UNU).
This certification was decided at the 19th Ubuntu Regional Center Evaluation Committee on December 10, 2024, and Sejong City has officially joined the Global Sustainable Development Education Network.
