충청남도의 주요 백제 유적에서 확인된 목곽시설을 문화유산으로 지정하기 위한 움직임이 본격화됐다.
충남 금산군, 천안시, 서천군은 지난 18일 한국전통문화대학교, 충남역사문화연구원과 함께 백제 목곽시설의 역사적 가치를 연구하고 문화유산으로 등재하기 위한 업무협약을 체결했다고 19일 밝혔다.
협약식은 부여군에 위치한 한국전통문화대학교 유현당에서 진행됐다.
이번 협약은 백제 시대 건축기술을 보여주는 목곽시설의 문화재적 가치를 조명하고, 이를 체계적으로 연구·보존하기 위해 추진됐다. 현재 충남에서는 ▲금산 백령성, ▲천안 위례성, ▲서천 봉선리유적에서 백제 목곽시설이 발굴된 바 있다. 특히 이들 유적에서는 목재 구조물이 원형 그대로 보존 처리된 사례가 확인돼 학술적으로도 높은 평가를 받고 있다.
목곽시설은 백제시대 건축기술을 엿볼 수 있는 중요한 자료로, 그 가치를 공식적으로 인정받아 문화유산으로 지정될 경우 충남의 역사적 정체성을 강화하는 계기가 될 것으로 기대된다.
