필자는 언론인-신문 발행인(社主)으로서, '시대(時代) 정신'에 충실한 면도 있다.
박정희-전두환 군사 독재 시절, 반정부 기사를 많이 썼었다. 이어지는 김영삼-김대중 정권 시절에는 대한민국의 민주주의 시대 구현에 앞장섰었다. 자유언론-민주언론 정착에 혼신의 힘을 쏟았었다.
국운(國運) 융성기를 거치면서, 기업 융성(隆盛)을 기록하는 기록자이기도 했다. 대한민국의 글로벌 선진국 편입 기, 대한민국의 발전을 상세하게 기록하는 일도 해왔다.

요즘 하는 일이란? 대한민국의 문화융성(隆盛)에 관심을 쏟는다.
전 세계인들이 프랑스 등 유럽국가 방문을 선호하는 이유는 그 나라가 지닌 고급문화(高級文化)를 보기 위함이다.
이제, 대한민국의 시대정신은 '문화의 고급화'라고 생각한다.
우리나라에는 화가들이 4만여 명이나 있다. 화가들은 아름다움을 창조하는 '문화 창조꾼'이라고 생각한다. 이들이 아름다운 대한민국 문화를 만들어가고 있기 때문이다.
수학엔 공식이 있다. 마찬가지로 문화 선진국이 되는 데도 공식이 있다. 막연하게 남을 뒤 따라가면 안되고, 세상에 없는 문화를 창조해야만 한다. 그래야, 세상에 하나뿐인 고급문화가 만들어진다. 고급문화가 많으면, 곧바로 선진국에 진입한다. 문화는 창조해야만이 고급 문화다.
유럽문화의 유입에 둔했던 한반도는 16세기부터 20세기 사이에 문화 후진국으로 머물러 있었다. 이 때문에 서구식 고급문화의 발전이 거의 없다시피 했다. 대한민국의 경우, 1948년 국가 수립 이후 미국식 문화-문명이 유입되어 문화발전을 거듭했다, 경제적으로나 문화적으로 압축(壓縮)성장을 했던 시기였다. 더군다나 박정희-전두환 군사정권 지배 기간이 장기간 지속되어 문화 발전이 둔화됐었다. 그 후 민주정부가 완벽하게 자리 잡은 대한민국은 창작의 자유가 주어지면서 문화 융성기에 접어 들었다. 이제, 대한민국=문화강국을 만들어볼 수 있는 저력을 가진 국가 됐다고 생각한다.

필자는 페이스북에 게재한, 한 글에서 “세계 대전을 치렀던 20세기는 전쟁의 세기라면, 21세기는 문화전쟁의 시대이다. 세계 각국-특히 선진 국가들은 문화영토(領土) 늘리기에 국력을 집중하고 있다. 우리나라도 그 중의 한 국가라고 생각한다. K-컬쳐(문화)가 그것이다. 한국 문화의 영토확장을 위해 무엇을 할 건지? 고민해야할 때”라면서 “필자는 날이 갈수록 치열해지고 있는, 국제-문화전쟁에 참전, 치열한 전투를 벌이는 중이다. 국제 문화전쟁에 참전(參戰) 중인 참전 용사이다. 2024년 프랑스(문화선진국)를 방문한 관광객 수는 8940만명(한국은 1750만명)이었다. 이 전쟁에서 패하면, 그 어떤 국가이든지 문화후진국으로 전락한다. 나는 서울누드화미술관을 설립하기 위해, 누드화 모으기에 열중(2,500여 점 소장)하고 있다. 아, 나는 국제 문화전쟁에 참전(參戰) 중인 참전용사”라고 공언(公言)한 바 있다.
