[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산광역시교육청이 오는 5월 부산에서 개최되는 제55회 전국소년체육대회를 앞두고 38개 종목에 출전할 822명의 대표 선수단을 최종 확정했다.
이번 선수단 선발은 학생 선수들의 끈기 있는 도전과 성장의 결실로 부산 체육의 미래를 이끌어갈 인재들이 대거 포함됐다.
부산시교육청은 지난 3월 2일부터 이달 12일까지 열린 2026 부산 초중학생체육대회를 통해 대표 선수를 선발했다. 이번 선발전에는 총 2,306명의 학생 선수들이 참가해 태권도와 사격 등 다양한 종목에서 열띤 경합을 벌였다.
최종 선발된 선수단은 학교운동부 소속 562명과 스포츠클럽에서 활동하는 개인 학생 선수 260명으로 구성됐다. 이는 엘리트 체육과 생활 스포츠가 조화를 이루는 선진국형 선수단 구조를 갖췄다는 평가를 받는다.
주요 종목별 선발 현황을 살펴보면 배구에서는 금명초등학교와 수정초등학교가 각각 남녀 초등부 대표로 뽑혔으며 금정중학교와 경남여자중학교가 중등부 대표로 나선다. 특히 지난해 금메달을 목에 걸었던 경남여자중학교는 대회 2연패라는 대기록에 도전하며 큰 기대를 모으고 있다.
야구 종목에서는 수영초등학교가 2년 연속 부산 대표 타이틀을 거머쥐었으며 경남중학교는 8년 만에 다시 부산 대표로 선발되어 본선 무대에서 명예 회복을 노린다.
부산은 지난해 열린 제54회 대회에서 금메달 30개, 은메달 20개, 동메달 55개 등 총 105개의 메달을 획득하며 역대 최고의 성과를 달성했다. 교육청은 올해 부산에서 대회가 열리는 만큼 작년의 상승세를 이어가기 위해 더욱 체계적인 지원책을 마련했다.
종목별 특성을 고려한 맞춤형 훈련 프로그램을 강화하고 선수 개개인의 역량을 정밀하게 분석해 실질적인 경기력 향상을 돕는 지원 체계를 구축했다.
김석준 부산광역시교육감은 이번 대표 선수단 확정은 학생 선수들이 오랜 시간 흘린 땀방울이 만들어낸 값진 결과라고 격려했다. 이어 이번 대회가 승패를 넘어 학생들이 자신의 가능성을 발견하고 한 단계 더 도약하는 소중한 성장의 무대가 되길 바란다고 덧붙였다. 아울러 부산에서 개최되는 대회인 만큼 선수들이 최고의 컨디션으로 기량을 마음껏 펼칠 수 있도록 현장 중심의 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다고 강조했다.

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has finalized a delegation of 822 student-athletes across 38 sports for the upcoming 55th National Junior Sports Festival, which will be held in Busan this May. This selection marks a significant milestone, reflecting the hard work, dedication, and growth of young athletes in the region.
Superintendent Kim Seok-jun announced on April 13 that the final roster was determined following the 2026 Busan Elementary and Middle School Student Sports Competition. The delegation consists of 562 students from school athletic departments and 260 individual athletes from various sports clubs. This composition highlights a balanced integration of traditional school-based sports and community sports clubs.
The selection process took place from March 2 to April 12, with 2,306 elementary and middle school students competing in various disciplines including Taekwondo and shooting. Throughout the trials, students showcased the skills they had honed over time, demonstrating a spirit of challenge and resilience.
In volleyball, Geummyung Elementary School (boys), Sujeong Elementary School (girls), Geumjeong Middle School (boys), and Gyeongnam Girls' Middle School (girls) were selected to represent Busan. Gyeongnam Girls' Middle School, in particular, is drawing attention as they aim for their second consecutive gold medal following last year's victory. In baseball, Suyeong Elementary School secured its spot for the second year in a row, while Gyeongnam Middle School returned as a city representative for the first time in eight years.
Busan achieved its best performance to date at last year’s festival, winning a total of 105 medals (30 gold, 20 silver, and 55 bronze). To maintain this momentum, the Busan Office of Education is enhancing its systematic training support and customized programs. The focus is on establishing a foundation for sustainable growth by analyzing the specific characteristics of each sport and the individual capabilities of the athletes.
Superintendent Kim Seok-jun stated that this delegation is a valuable result of the students' sweat and determination. He expressed his hope that the National Junior Sports Festival will serve as a stage where students can realize their potential and reach the next level of their athletic journey. He also emphasized that since the event is hosted in Busan, the office will provide full support to ensure athletes can perform at their best in an optimal environment.
