기자-언론인 생활을 해오면서, 그 시대시대마다 눈앞에 떡 하니 가로막힌 큰 주제들이 떠올랐다.
돌이켜보면, 기자-언론인인 나는 그런 돌발되는 거대한 이슈와의 투쟁이 이어졌다. 쉽게 풀이하면, 그때그때마다 사회적인 큰 이슈가 부상했다. 몇 가지를 기술해보려 한다.
1970년대에는 영호남 갈등이 떠올랐다. 1971년에 있은 대통령 선거(4.27)에서 박정희-김대중이 대결, 박정희가 승리했다. 해외에서 떠돌던 김대중은 1973년(8월8일), 일본에서 납치돼 국내로 이송됐다.
영호남 갈등이 증폭됐다. 1979년 10.26 사건으로 박정희 대통령이 암살됐다. 그 직후 전두환 신군부 정권은 광주학살을 단행, 집권을 성취했다. 그들은 광주를 피로 물들였다. 이 사건으로 영호남 갈등은 극에 달했다. 1998년 김대중 집권 때까지 영호남 갈등은 사회적인 이슈였다.
박정희-전두환은 장군 출신 집권자였다. 노태우도 장군 출신이었다. 이 때 한국민들은 군사 쿠데타-군사독재에 시달렸다. 이런 정치적 구조는 민간으로의 권력교체(勸力交替)라는 사회적 이슈를 만들어 냈다. 이 때문에 반정부(反政府) 기자라는 말이 나왔다.

분단된 남북한의 협력 문제가 우리 국가-사회의 이슈로 떠올랐다. 김대중 정권은 2000년 6.15 남북정상회담을 갖고 남북한 협력을 극대화 했다. 그 이후 노무현-문재인 정권도 남북한 정상회담을 가졌다.
이명박-박근혜 정권에서는 남북 간 대립이 강화됐다. 남북한 문제는 가위게임처럼 열렸다가 닫히는 게 반복돼 왔다. 친북-반북 논리가 공존했다.
북한이 핵무기를 개발하고 운반수단인 대륙 간 미사일을 발사하는 실험을 지속하면서, 한반도 남북한에 '핵무장'이 이슈화 됐다. 남한의 국민들 가운데는 “우리도 핵무장을 해야한다”고 주장하는 이들이 많아졌다. 핵무장이라는 이슈가 부상했다.
윤석열 정권에 들어와서는 보수-진보가 격돌했다. 지구촌의 대세인 실용주의 사회로 이전하지지 못하고, 중음신(中陰身=윤회를 인정하는 생사관에서 죽은 순간부터 다음 세상에 태어나기까지의 중간 시기)이 되어 떠돌고 있다.
한때 한국에 대기업들의 성장이 돋보이면서 반기업(反企業) 정서가 강했다. 노조들의 활동이 강화됐다. 강성 노조들이 벌이는 과격한 투쟁은 여전히 사회적 극한 투쟁세력으로 존재케 했다.
현재 한국 사회는 정치혼란을 거듭하면서 글로벌 선진한국, 또는 문화강국 이슈로 발 빠르게 이전하는 느낌이다.
기자-언론인인 나는 시대가 만들어낸 미묘한 이슈와 부딪치며, 시대를 관통해왔다. 나는 시대가 만들어낸 '시대정신'과 함께 해왔다. 그래서 행복했다. 나는 '투쟁가' 였다. 나는 펜을 든, 투쟁가였다. 나의 무기는 오직 펜이었다.
이후, 어떤? 거대한 이슈가 부상할까? 이후의 시대정신은 과연 무엇일까? 궁금하기도 하다.

While living as a journalist, I have been faced with big issues that have suddenly appeared in front of me in each era.
Looking back, as a journalist, I have continued to struggle with such huge issues that suddenly arose. To put it simply, major social issues have emerged at each time. I will describe a few of them.
In the 1970s, the conflict between Yeongnam and Honam came to mind. In the presidential election held in 1971 (April 27), Park Chung-hee and Kim Dae-jung faced off, and Park Chung-hee won. Kim Dae-jung, who had been wandering abroad, was kidnapped from Japan on August 8, 1973 and brought back to Korea.
The conflict between Yeongnam and Honam intensified. In the October 26 Incident of 1979, President Park Chung-hee was assassinated. Immediately after, the new military regime of Chun Doo-hwan carried out the Gwangju Massacre and achieved power. They dyed Gwangju in blood. This incident brought the conflict between Yeongnam and Honam to its peak. Until Kim Dae-jung took office in 1998, the conflict between Yeongnam and Honam was a social issue.
