브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이재명 더불어민주당 대표는 22일 "만약 (윤석열 대통령) 탄핵 의결이 기각돼서 되돌아온다고 생각해 보라. 대통령은 법적 요건이 있든지 말든지 절차를 지키든지 말든지 국회를 함부로 침탈을 해서라도 아무 때나 막 해도 된다는 것. 무법천지가 되는 것이다. 나라가 망하는 것이다"라고 밝혔다.
이재명 대표는 이날 4·2 기초단체장 재보궐선거가 치러지는 전라남도 담양을 찾아 이같이 연설했다. 담양 중앙공원에서 김민석·김병주 최고위원과 호남을 지역구로 둔 박지원·주철현·양부남 의원 등과 함께 정권 심판론을 앞세우며 이재종 담양군수 후보 지지를 호소하는 도중 나온 발언이다.
이 대표는 "(지난해) 12월 3일 비상계엄의 세부 내용은 몰랐지만 참혹한 살육전이 벌어질지도 모르겠다, 그러면서 딱 떠오른 게 광주 5·18이었다"며 "친위 군사쿠데타를 막는 유일한 길은 시민들이 나서서 막는 수밖에 없다"고 밝혔다.
이어 "1980년 5월 광주에서 10일 남짓한 짧은 기간에 모든 공권력 철수한 광주 광장에서 우리 시민들은 대동 세상, 공동체 모습을 보여줬다. 빛의 혁명의 시작이었다"며 "모든 권력은 오로지 국민만을 위해 사용돼야 하는 민주공화국이라는 사실을 우리 국민은 증명해 가고 있고 그 중심에 호남이, 담양이 있다"고 강조했다.
아울러 국회가 비상계엄 해제 요구결의안을 의결한 것을 거론하며 "민주당이 과거 행태를 그대로 가지고 있었다면 이렇게 신속하게 전광석화처럼 계엄 해제를 할 수 있었겠나. 치열하게 싸워낼 수 있었겠느냐"며 "민주당이 과거와 달리 국민에 기초해서, 당원이 이끌어가는 진정한 민주정당, 당원의 당이 되어가고 있다고 생각한다"고 강조했다.
그는 마지막으로 "제가 여기 온 이유는 한 가지다. 결국 민주주의를 향한 의지를 이번 선거를 통해 국민은 확인할 것"이라며 "호남이 민주당을 지지하느냐, 안 하느냐 이런 이야기를 듣는 순간 전열이 흐트러질 것이다. 친위쿠데타를 이겨내고 이 나라를 정상 나라로 갈 수 있도록 작은 힘이라도 보태주시길 다시 한번 부탁드린다"고 덧붙였다.
