군은 25일 군청 상황실에서 구인모 거창군수를 비롯한 간부공무원, 거창시장번영회장, 문화거리 상인연합회장 등 20여명이 참석한 가운데 ‘거창군 전통시장지구 도시재생활성화계획 수립용역’ 착수보고회를 개최했다.
‘도시재생 활성화계획’은 노후화된 도시에 새로운 활력을 불어넣기 위해 생활 편의시설 확충, 주거환경 개선 등 다양한 사업을 추진하는 종합계획이다.
이를 통해 도시의 경쟁력을 강화하고 지속 가능한 성장을 도모하는 것이 목표다.
군은 이번 용역을 통해 거창읍 중앙리~대동리 일원에 위치한 전통시장지구 도시재생활성화 구역을 대상으로 지역 고유의 특색을 살려 도시를 브랜드화하고 상권 및 공동체 활성화를 이끌어내 전통시장지구를 더욱 경쟁력 있는 공간으로 탈바꿈시킬 계획이다.
또한, 거창군은 총사업비 250억원 규모의 국토교통부 도시재생 공모사업에 도전해 국도비를 확보함으로써 재정 부담을 줄이고 보다 체계적이고 지속 가능한 도시재생사업을 추진할 방침이다.
군은 향후 주민공청회, 의회 의견청취, 관련 부서 협의 등 절차를 거쳐 도시재생활성화계획안을 수립한 뒤, 올해 하반기 국토교통부 도시재생 공모사업을 신청할 예정이다.
이날 착수보고회에서는 지역 현황 분석을 토대로 도시재생 방향을 심도있게 논의했다.
특히 도시재생사업과 연계해 시너지 효과를 기대할 수 있는 관련 사업을 발굴하고 구체적인 사업 구상안을 제시했다.
구인모 군수는 “거창읍의 중심지인 전통시장지구의 도시재생사업 추진을 통해 생활인구 증가와 지역경제 활성화를 기대한다”며 “관련부서 및 기관, 주민들과 긴밀히 협력해 거창군 전통시장지구의 특색을 반영한 실현가능한 계획을 수립하고 국토교통부 공모선정을 통해 국도비를 확보하겠다”고 말했다.
한편 거창군은 2020년에 ‘거창군 도시재생 전략계획’을 수립해 도시재생활성화구역을 지정했다.
같은 해 죽전, 상동지구 도시재생사업이 국토교통부 공모사업에 선정됐으며 2024년 9월 김천지구 도시재생사업이 국토교통부 공모사업에 선정되어 추진 중이다.
