충남 서천에서 마주친 40대 여성을 흉기로 잔혹하게 살해한 34세 남성 이지현의 범행 동기가 가상화폐 투자 실패와 이에 따른 경제적 어려움인 것으로 밝혀졌다.
대전지검 홍성지청은 28일 피의자 이지현을 살인 및 살인예비 혐의로 구속기소 했다고 밝혔다.
이 씨는 이달 2일 오후 9시 45분쯤 충남 서천군 사곡리의 한 도로에서 마주친 40대 여성에게 흉기를 휘둘러 살해한 뒤 시신을 유기한 혐의를 받고 있다.
수사를 맡은 검찰은 사건 송치 후 이 씨의 근무지를 압수수색하고, 휴대전화 및 PC를 포렌식 분석했다. 계좌 내역과 동선 추적, 프로파일링 등을 종합한 결과, 이 씨가 가상화폐 투자로 수천만 원을 잃고 극심한 경제적 압박에 시달렸던 것으로 확인됐다. 대출마저 거절당하자 사회에 대한 분노와 자포자기 심정이 범행으로 이어졌다는 것이 검찰의 판단이다.

검찰은 CCTV 분석을 통해 이 씨가 범행 당일 다른 여성을 추가적으로 미행한 사실도 밝혀냈다. 이에 따라 단순한 충동 범죄가 아니라 무작위로 대상을 물색한 뒤 범행을 저지를 계획이었을 가능성이 높다고 판단, 살인예비 혐의를 함께 적용했다.
검찰 관계자는 "경제적 문제로 인한 개인적 좌절이 불특정 다수를 향한 극단적 폭력으로 이어졌다"며 "유사 범행을 방지하기 위해 엄정한 법 집행이 필요하다"고 밝혔다.
